Amy Poehler thinks comedy deserves better.
During the September 16 episode of her Good Hang podcast, the actress and comedian, 54, called out the Academy Awards for neglecting comedy films while chatting with guest Benedict Cumberbatch.
After the Doctor Strange star claimed, “If you can do comedy, you can do anything,” the Saturday Night Live legend replied, “Of course. You don’t have to tell me, Babe.”
She continued, “Every single year at the Oscars, everybody gets blanked, and all the serious people get up and accept and accept and accept.”
Cumberbatch, 49, agreed, before Poehler added, “And it’s some hot bulls–t, because comedy is not easy.”
Though the Massachusetts native has yet to receive an Oscar, she has earned many accolades throughout her successful career, such as a 2014 Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, for her role in Parks and Recreation.
In 2016, she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series for her role as an SNL co-host.
When Is Amy Poehler Hosting SNL Again?
Poehler was a prominent cast member on SNL from 2001 to 2008.
She hosted the hit sketch comedy series during season 36 in 2010 with musical guest Katy Perry.
The Mean Girls alum then co-hosted with Tina Fey in 2015. The season 41 epsiode included musical guest Bruce Springsteen.
Poehler is set to host the show’s 50th anniversary episode on October 11, NBC reported.
The highly anticipated season 51 episode will premiere live at 11:30 p.m. ET and 8:30 pm PT. Viewers can tune in via NBC or Peacock. It will also be available for streaming on Peacock the following day.
Singer-songwriter Role Model—whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury—will serve as the musical guest.
The main native is well-known for his hit 2024 song, “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out.”
