South Bend native Vivica A. Fox has a new movie coming out this week with screenings beginning Thursday afternoon at theaters in both South Bend and Mishawaka.

Fox was born in South Bend and later graduated from Arlington High School in Indianapolis.
Famous roles
Fox has had a prolific acting career, appearing in more than 250 films and TV shows, beginning with four episodes of “Days of Our Lives” in 1988 before she broke out into wider success in 1996’s “Independence Day,” in which she played Will Smith’s wife.
Other well-known projects have included “Soul Food” in 1997, both “Kill Bill” movies in 2003 and 2004, “Ella Enchanted” in 2004, and two roles revisited later.
In 2016, Fox returned for the sequel “Independence Day: Resurgence,” and in 2023, she was featured in the music video for SZA’s hit “Kill Bill.”
‘Is God Is’
Fox’s new project is the titular role in “Is God Is,” a revenge thriller written and directed by Aleshea Harris, based on her play. The play won several awards, including three Obie Awards given to off-Broadway productions, and was a finalist for a Pulitzer.
Fox plays a mother who sends her twin daughters on a mission of revenge against their father, who set the fire that scarred all three women.
