SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The South Bend redevelopment commission met earlier Thursday at the County-City building.
They mentioned some notable projects coming to the downtown area.
First, they approved an outdoor entertainment area project.
The developer calls it “The Yard”, and it sits on LaSalle Avenue between Niles Avenue and Hill Street.
This $14-million project will provide space for families to hang out, events featuring food trucks and a stage for performances.
“The link trail that connects the university and downtown. This type of experience being located on that trail can hopefully help draw people from um, campus, uh, more into the downtown area. It’s kind of a mid-way stop, if you think,” said Caleb Bauer the executive director of Community Investment for South Bend.
During the meeting, the commission members asked the developer to make the place available to the public as much as it could be.
They reinstated that the main purpose of this project is to enhance our community’s quality of life.
