Introduction to the Appalachian Dulcimer
Newfield Public Library, 198 Main St, Newfield, NY 14867, USA
Hosted by Wayne Harbert, a lifelong “non-musician” who dabbles in dulcimer making, this session will be a hands-on opportunity to experience the feel and sound of the Appalachian dulcimer. Join us to learn about an instrument whose history links medieval musical theory with rural American ingenuity, and whose design properties make it an ideal musical instrument for us non-musicians. Information about resources, the basic tunings, methods of playing, and reading (and writing) dulcimer tablatures will be provided. We will also explore the possibility of forming a local dulcimer learners’ group. No experience necessary. Young and old are welcome (patient musicians too—most especially if they have experience with dulcimers). We will all learn from each other. We will be working with dulcimers made by the facilitator, but if you have one sitting around, you are encouraged to bring it too. A dulcimer will be made available to interested participants through the library for (possibly extended) loan. Registration recommended but not required.

She has been a part of various local music projects, ranging from indie-rock to classic country. She currently plays in the duo Good Dog with Joe Hayward who contributes pedal steel guitar and vocals to the calm country-folk project. Sarah always brings special guests and friends to play with her, so stay tuned!

Wear Vibrant Colors Papa Muse, Caviar & Grits, Sorry Janey, Tsavo Highway & Positive Wonderland
The Nocturnal Café, 103 S Geneva St, Ithaca, NY 14850, USA
Papa Muse’s last local band show of the season is themed Wear Vibrant Colors, and we’ll be filming and recording a Papa Muse music video. There will be plenty of safe zones that are not being filmed, but we’re hoping for lots of fun self-expressed dancing friends to be a part of this special event and our live performance video.
Papa Muse will be sharing the stage with 4 other diverse and dynamic musical acts! Held at the Nocturnal Cafe (formerly the Kava Lounge), an all-ages music venue and cafe in downtown Ithaca, Papa Muse will be joined by friends Caviar & Grits from Binghamton, Tsavo Highway from Buffalo, Sorry Janey, and Positive Wonderland from Ithaca.
Caviar & Grits from Binghamton is a soulful and groovy, funky and fun, female-fronted band of virtuosos. Recently, having performed at Ithaca’s Apple Harvest Festival and winners of the Grassroots Festival band contest in 2025, Caviar & Grits have a buzz, and for good reason. Take a gander at https://caviarandgrits.com
Sorry Janey is the musical duo of Ithaca-based artist Margaret Harper (Cast Iron Cowboys, Lost Mary Band) and Geneva singer-songwriter Calya Lea. Blending their countrified folk roots, heartfelt lyricism, and rich harmonies, the pair create music that feels both intimate and timeless. Drawing from their backgrounds in jazz, country, and folk, Sorry Janey showcases their musicianship, storytelling, and deep friendship through every song.
Tsavo Highway, another powerhouse female-fronted band, that plays jam-infused high-energy Indie Rock and has been lighting up festival stages throughout Upstate NY. Catching them on tour, we are honored to show them off in I-town. They are impressive.
Positive Wonderland is quirky, the solo piano and vocals of Ithaca-based songwriter Laik Uticone. With laugh-out-loud happy songs, this young artist will put a smile on your face. A spirited and enthusiastic musician, Laik impressed us with a desire to make the world a brighter place.
The Nocturnal Cafe has an extensive menu of non-alcoholic elixirs, CBD-infused drinks, and gourmet coffees. See their full menu and learn more at http://www.thenocturnalcafe.com.

Angry Mom Records, 115 E State St, Ithaca, NY 14850, USA
Prime Ruin presents:
GREEN TEA https://newforces.bandcamp.com/album/bending-your-sauna One of the absolute champions of the current scene, Green Tea breathes new life into the genre of harsh noise. Texture juxtaposition, dynamic arrangements and many aural left turns, set Nick Forte’s (of Raspberry Bulbs, Rorschach, Half Mortal, etc.) project apart from the rest. Several albums deep on New Forces, Satatuhatta and Tribe Tapes, he isn’t letting up. Those who caught Green Tea live 2 years ago know that this is the real deal, NOT TO BE MISSED.
SUNKEN CHEEK https://primeruin.bandcamp.com/album/sunken-cheek-proud-amputee Semi-annual appearance of the long-running misery electronics project by WC. Meditations on memories of old habits, paranoia, and attempts at purging. A combination of new and recycled Cheek material, stumbling towards something complete.
PRAYER ROPE https://norentrecords.bandcamp.com/album/synodus-horrenda-norent052 Welcoming back former Ithacan Lexi Turner to take the stage once again as the enigmatic Prayer Rope. One of the harshest projects this city has seen emerge and one of the most well-balanced in presentation of theme. A rarity these days, please come lend her your ears.
I-SM https://i-sm.studio/splitimage Ian Sherlock’s ever-evolving sonic practice. While firmly rooted in experimental electronics, at this point it would be presumptuous to assign genres for what I-SM is doing or what is presented next. The blend of multiple reference points is refreshing and always handled with care. Let’s just listen and see.

Young Legs is the musical moniker of queer NJ native and Newfield transplant Steven Donahue. For over a decade, they’ve released whisper-quiet bedroom folk, blown out garage rock, lo-fi curios, and hi-fi pop anthems, and almost always all on the same record. Primarily self-recorded and produced, but often welcoming collaborators into the fold, their focus on introspective lyrics within a cosmic setting evokes a wide range of emotion in their listeners.
In their ample time spent not working on music, they enjoy reading sci-fi/fantasy paperbacks, playing Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, and Nintendo, gardening, moongazing, staying up late, and sleeping in.

Bound for Glory: Anne Hills
Lansing Area Performance Hall, 1004 Auburn Road, Lansing
“Anne Hills is such an exquisite singer that it’s understandable that people might be swept up in the pure beauty of her voice and thereby overlook her writing. That would be a mistake. For me, Anne’s writing, in songs like ‘Follow That Road’ and many others, is as direct, melodic and deep as any work being done today. She is quite simply one of my absolute favorite songwriters.”–Tom Paxton
Anne Hills is one of the most beloved voices of the contemporary folk music scene, receiving awards and recognition for her live performances, her unique solo and collaborative recording projects, and her overall artistry and benefit work. Her song “Follow That Road” was the title cut of the Martha’s Vineyard Songwriter Retreat and has been a certified folk classic since the late 1990s.
Anne was born in Moradabad, India, the third daughter of educational missionaries. Raised in Michigan, she attended Interlochen Arts Academy where she formed her first folk trio. She was also the female vocalist with the Big Band that turned out future jazz greats Peter Erskine, Bob Mintzer and Chris Brubeck. She moved to Chicago’s fertile folk scene in 1976 and co-founded the folklore center Hogeye Music, still a force in the Chicago music scene. As a singer, actress, writer, and musician Anne Hills has continuously built a reputation of merit. She has received numerous honors and awards over the years.
Whether she is singing her own songs, the words of six-year-old Opal Whiteley, or her song settings of the Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley; accompanied with her guitar, banjo, or simply a Tibetan bell, she puts her whole heart and soul into the moment. You won’t want to miss a chance to hear her songs and stories in person. She tours extensively, winning over audiences with her warm, lively and humorous performances.
Come be a part of Bound for Glory’s new series of monthly live shows on Sunday afternoons at 2 pm in the Lansing Area Performance Hall at 1004 Auburn Road, North Lansing, NY.

For the past twenty years ANDREW & NOAH VANNORSTRAND have been bringing their brand of original folk music to festival stages, concert halls, dance floors, and living rooms all over North America and beyond. As teenagers, they helped define a new generation of contra dance music with their family band The Great Bear Trio and even appeared on the nationally syndicated public radio program A Prairie Home Companion. Since then they’ve established themselves as virtuosic multi-instrumentalists and insightful songwriters, drawing from a wide range of genres including Bluegrass and Appalachian, Celtic and Quebecois, Swing and Jazz. Andrew and Noah are often on tour with the progressive folk roots band The Faux Paws but you can catch them performing as a duo at the Night Eagle, exploring their deep repertoire and love for American folk music.
