Shatner, a Golden Globe recipient for his performance in Boston Legal, portrayed Star Trek’s iconic character Captain Kirk throughout the franchise from the original TV series in 1966 through the seventh Star Trek motion picture, Star Trek Generations, in 1994. He continues to have several acting ventures in development, including a role in the forthcoming TV series The Elevator.
Following a career spanning more than seven decades, Shatner makes appearances at fan conventions, including a panel at Dragon Con in Atlanta just last month. The father of three, born in Montreal, Canada, is also recognized for his performances in Boston Legal, 3rd Rock from the Sun and various other comedy and drama shows, reports the Mirror.
In 2023, the performer disclosed he created a documentary about his life because he “didn’t have long left to live.” He intended to use the film as a means to “reach out to his grandchildren” following his death.
“I’ve rejected numerous offers to create documentaries previously. But I don’t have much time remaining. Whether I collapse while speaking to you or 10 years from now, my time is finite, so that’s definitely a consideration,” he disclosed. But he conquered those health challenges to continue his television and film career, and put fans’ minds at ease last year when they grew worried about his condition once more.
The determined performer posted on social media: “Well today was interesting. I received a call from several friends who had read on some obscure website that in an interview i did that I admitted that I have no true friends and I will die alone.
“Wasn’t that Kirk’s schtick? Don’t confuse me with fantasy here. Although if Tom Bergeron calls me I’m absolutely going to tell him I said that! This is ridiculous. So unless you are Tom, don’t believe a word of it.”
Supporters felt relieved after reading William’s message, with one follower commenting: “There’s nothing like true friendship.”
A second added: “Captain, you have millions of friends who would respond immediately if called upon.”
