Staunton’s Happy Birthday America 2026 just around the corner
Happy Birthday America celebration in Staunton includes a parade, music, a 5K race, fireworks and more.
The Shenandoah Valley Juneteenth Organization is hosting its 10th annual Juneteenth Celebration from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 20 at Montgomery Hall Park, 1000 Montgomery Ave., Staunton.
Sponsored by the Augusta County Historical Society, the Shenandoah Valley Juneteenth Organization was cofounded in 2017 by Sheila Ahmadi and George Hunter to increase knowledge of African American history and build strength and unity through community connection.
“As we celebrate 10 years of the Shenandoah Valley Juneteenth Organization (SVJO), we honor not only the freedom announced in 1865, but the generations who transformed that promise into purpose,” said Ahmadi. “Juneteenth reminds us that freedom, justice, and opportunity are not milestones we reach once— they are responsibilities we carry forward!
“Our past ten years have been about preserving history, building community, and inspiring future generations. The next 10 years are about ensuring that this history remains visible, valued, and shared by all.”
The event includes live music and dance performance featuring Lori Jean Akanbi, George Hunter, Andrew Russell, Matthew 25, and Anna Line Dance.
