In the second of two bombshell articles profiling Trump’s inner circle, the magazine said that Wiles had a “freestanding video monitor” showing a live feed of Trump’s Truth Social posts next to a fireplace in her West Wing corner office.
Colbert couldn’t resist making light of the setup.
“So, there’s fire and a constant stream of Trump’s social media posts? Are you sure that’s your office, ’cause it sounds like Hell to me!” he quipped.
Colbert also reminded his audience about how Trump had politicized the Justice Department in “unprecedented ways” over the past 11 months, and yet Wiles told Vanity Fair in an August interview that she didn’t think the president was on a “retribution tour.”
“In some cases, it may look like retribution. And there may be an element of that from time to time. Who would blame him? Not me,” she told the magazine.
Colbert took matters into his own hands.
“OK, uh, then I’ll do it: Donald Trump, I blame you!” he said while pointing at the camera, while the audience erupted in cheers.
