Stephen King is a horror icon and has delivered many great works and their adaptations during his long stint in and around the industry. His work is soon set to be adapted into another film, The Long Walk. Ahead of its release, the veteran novelist has shared his 10 favorite movies of all time from his official X account. Here is what Stephen King’s list looks like.

Stephen King names Godfather 2 and Jaws in his 10 favorite movies list

Stephen King recently shared his list of favorite films on his X account. In this post, the veteran author first dropped a disclaimer that the list does not include four films- Misery, The Shawshank Redemption, Stand by Me, and The Green Mile. All four of these movies are widely acclaimed but are based on the works of Stephen King. He perhaps excluded them to be fairer. Maybe these would have otherwise been a part of King’s list.

Interestingly, The Shining, often considered one of the best adaptations of any Stephen King novel, was left out. This can be traced back to King’s public disapproval of Stanley Kubrick’s take on the iconic horror novel. Yet, The Shining remains memorable even now.

Anyhow, barring his works, Stephen King said his 10 favorite movies were Sorcerer, The Godfather Part II, The Getaway, Groundhog Day, Casablanca, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Jaws, Mean Streets, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Double Indemnity. Many of these movies are considered bona fide classics.

King said in this post that the list of movies was not in any particular order.

Some movies on King’s list are frequently featured in lists of the greatest films ever made. These include Casablanca, The Godfather Part II, Mean Streets, and Jaws. But some somewhat offbeat choices are intriguing.

Meanwhile, The Long Walk, based on King’s work, will premiere on September 12, 2025, in the United States.
