Steve Lacy has been biting his tongue about details of his new music. But now, he’s ready to share it with the world.
In an interview with Rolling Stone published Thursday, August 14, the singer and multi-instrumentalist revealed the title of his upcoming fourth album. The album — titled Oh Yeah? is set for release later this year.
The album comes three years after the release of his 2022 album Gemini Rights, which spawned the viral hit “Bad Habit.” “Bad Habit” proved to be a hit for Lacy, as it peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2023 Grammys. That year, Gemini Rights won Best Progressive R&B Album.
Not much is known about Oh Yeah? but the outlet called it “Lacy’s most confident work yet.”
Lacy himself explained why the album took so long to make. “I keep using the word ‘design.’ It feels like fully designing a new language for myself.”
Before Lacy found success as a solo artist, he joined hip-hop and R&B collective The Internet in 2015. He contributed vocals, instrumentation, and production to their 2015 album Ego Death. His work on the album earned him a Grammy nomination in 2016. He once again contributed to The Internet’s 2018 album Hive Mind.
Though it’s been seven years since The Internet put out a proper album — as artists like Lacy and Syd have been dropping solo material — Lacy revealed that the group has been “hanging out” and new music may soon be on the way.
In the meantime, fans can look forward to new music from Lacy imminently. On Wednesday, Aug. 13, Lacy took to Instagram to reveal that a new song called “Nice Shoes” will drop this Friday.
