On the anniversary of the September 11th attacks, actor Steven Weber is paying tribute to two people whose loss is still with him 24 years later.

Weber, who starred on the NBC sitcom Wings from 1990 to 1997, took to Instagram on September 11, 2025, to remember Wings creator and executive producer David Angell and his wife, Lynn. The couple was tragically killed aboard American Airlines Flight 11, the first plane that struck the World Trade Center towers on 9/11 in 2001.

“We lost these two lovely people — David and Lynn Angell — on this day 24 years ago,” Weber wrote alongside a photo. “The sheer hatred of decency, compassion, empathy and wisdom that did this is, sadly, still with us. Miss you guys.”

The top comment on the post is from fellow Wings star Amy Yasbeck, who writes, “The kindest, most loving couple. A devastating loss for all who knew them.”

Angell was a talented writer and producer who left his mark on TV history. Before co-creating Wings, he was a supervising producer and writer for Cheers and went on to become an executive producer on the hit series Frasier. Both shows remain some of the most celebrated sitcoms of their era; Angell earned 14 Emmy nominations between the two shows and won eight of them.

The entertainment community has continued to honor the Angells’ memory. The American Screenwriters Association established the David Angell Humanitarian Award, which recognizes individuals in the industry who contribute to global well-being through service, philanthropy, and advocacy.

The loss of the Angells was deeply felt on the Frasier set, as it was currently airing when the couple was killed. When the sitcom returned to air just two weeks after the attacks, the September 25, 2001, episode “Don Juan in Hell” closed with a touching memorial: “In loving memory of our friends Lynn and David Angell.”

Years later, the show’s 2004 series finale had another tribute — Niles and Daphne named their newborn son David in honor of the beloved producer.

Weber’s post is a stark reminder that the pain of September 11 is still deeply personal for many people, and that the loss of friends and colleagues continues to resonate more than two decades later because, as Weber wrote, the world is still battling with a lack of compassion and empathy.
