Stranger Things is going all out for its final season. Next month, the series will return one last time to bring its nearly decade-long adventure to an end. The grand finale is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on Dec. 31, but for viewers wanting to really take in the moment, Stranger Things 5 is heading to theaters.

On Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, select theaters in the U.S. and Canada will screen the final episode. Participating locations will be announced in the coming weeks.

More from Rolling Stone

“We’re beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters — it’s something we’ve dreamed about for years,” creators Matt and Ross Duffer told Netflix TUDUM. “Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect — dare we say bitchin’ — way to celebrate the end of this adventure.”

Stranger Things 5 wrapped production in December with a reported 650 hours of footage filmed for the final season. Earlier this month, Ross Duffer posted the run times for the first four episodes. The set, which will roll out on Nov. 26, spans from 54 minutes to one hour and 23 minutes. The next batch will follow with three more episodes premiering on Dec. 25, followed by the finale on Dec. 31.

For comparison, the Season Four finale released in 2022 clocked in at two hours and 22 minutes. Season Three concluded with a finale that was an hour and 18 minutes long, Season Two wrapped in an hour, and Season One’s finale was over in just 55 minutes.

“The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before,” a synopsis of Stranger Things 5 reads. “To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”
