Dean Cain, who portrayed Superman in the 1990s series Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman from 1993 to 1997, was sworn in as an honorary Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer this week.
On August 6, he announced his intention to join the federal agency as they ramped up their recruitment efforts, and was met with intense backlash.
He appeared on Fox News while at an ICE training camp in Georgia, where he struggled through an obstacle course. During an interview with correspondent Alexis McAdams, the actor took the opportunity to fire back at the late-night hosts who have been ridiculing him for joining ICE.
Dean was recently sworn in as an honorary ICE agent, meaning he does not actually hold any power or authority.
Actor John Leguizamo called him a “loser,” while comedians and late-night hosts like John Oliver and Bill Maher poked fun at him on their shows. The actor took the opportunity to address the ridicule during his Fox News appearance this week.
“Why did you want to get involved with ICE? I know there was a little bit of backlash, right? Not everybody thought it was the best idea for Superman,” Alexis asked. “Ya think?” he responded.
After the Fox News pundit asked about the controversy, Dean looked straight into the camera and said, “I get John Oliver, or Bill Maher, or whomever making fun of me. That’s great. Go ahead. It’s an easy joke and that’s fine. But what you’re making fun of is me standing up for federal law enforcement and American citizens. If you want to make fun of me for that, go ahead.”
He added, “I stand with our law enforcement and people don’t realize they think that, you know, ICE is this horrible nefarious group and they’re not they’re phenomenal people.”

This comes as Dean has faced a slew of backlash from various late night hosts and talk show personalities.
During the August 8 episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, the comedian said, “ICE going around there with their masks, throwing people into vans…” before addressing Dean. He suggests that the actor joined “not because he’s MAGA, he just needs the money,” adding, “And it works out, he was already living in a van.”
The comedian doubled down, “No, I think he joined because he heard that lots of migrants were coming into this country and a lot of them were bad actors. He said, ‘Room for one more?'”
On the August 10 episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver joked, “You know, there’s an old saying in Hollywood… ‘If all you can get is Dean Cain, then you are f—-d.'”
He continued, “Now, I’m not saying that ICE isn’t finding people. I’m just saying, when you are reduced to pinning a badge on the 59-year-old star of The Dog Who Saved Christmas, The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation, The Dog Who Saved the Holidays, The Dog Who Saved Halloween, The Dog Who Saved Easter, and The Dog Who Saved Summer, maybe you are in trouble.”
