A new teaser from Sydney Sweeney‘s upcoming film “Americana” reveals she plays a diner waitress with Nashville aspirations.
The crime-comedy, a modern-day Western released on Aug. 15, stars Sweeney as Penny Jo Poplin and Paul Walter Hauser as “Lefty” Ledbetter, who team up to pursue a rare Native American artifact in South Dakota.
Halsey, Eric Dane, Zahn McClarnon and Roy Lee Dean are also in the film’s cast.
A sneak peak of the movie dropped on Aug. 14, showing Sweeney and Hauser’s characters dreaming about what they’d do with the money once they get the artifact.

Sweeney’s Penny Jo speaks with a stutter, asking if the artifact is really worth half a million dollars.
“That’s what the man said,” said Hauser’s character, a reserved rancher.
“Guess that’s that,” she said, setting a gun on the counter. “They aren’t just gonna give us the artifact, ya know? What are you gonna do with the money when we get it?”
Lefty said he doesn’t really need the money, just good food, beer and company — things he already has.
“I bet they have all that in Nashville,” Penny Jo replies. “Once we get the artifact, I’m gonna sell it for the big bucks and go there to sing professionally.”
“I didn’t know you were a singer,” he said.
“Nobody does … I’m a hidden gem,” she said, adding that she sings “cheatin’ songs, drinkin’ songs, hurtin’ songs.”
“You sing country music?” he asks.
“What other kinda music is there?” she said, beaming.

The movie, filmed in 2022, follows the story of a waitress and military veteran seeking a rare Lakota Ghost shirt, which has fallen onto the black market in a small town.
“The lives of local outsiders and outcasts violently intertwine,” says a description of the film on IMDB.
“Some seek fortune and some seek personal freedom, while others simply want to return the artifact to its proper tribal home.”
The film was written and directed by Tony Tost (Damnation, Poker Face) and is the latest film from Sweeney, who has starred in the TV series “White Lotus” and “Euphoria,” as well as films “Madame Web,” “Immaculate,” and “Echo Valley.”
