Ahead of Christy’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, Sydney Sweeney revealed that she performed all of her fight scenes herself. In a recent interview, she emphasized that the punches seen on screen are real and not staged with stunt doubles. The actress emphasized that it was essential to capture the intensity of the story.

Sydney Sweeney talks about punching other actors in movie

Sydney Sweeney recently opened up about the physically demanding role of Christy Martin in the upcoming biopic. In an interview with Vanity Fair, she revealed that all of the fight scenes in Christy were performed without stunt doubles.

The actress said, “Every single fight you see, we are actually punching each other. We are going full force.” Sweeney emphasized that authenticity was her priority, noting that using stunt doubles would have undermined the realism of the story. She said, “I always believed that you would not be able to make it feel real if it’s a stunt double or if it’s faking the hits.”

During the same interview, the actress expressed her admiration for Martin’s story. She admitted that she was surprised the boxer’s journey was not well-known. “I was blown away that her story wasn’t more known on a universal, global level because it’s just one of the most harrowing and inspiring women that I’ve ever met in my entire life,” she said.

In the movie, Sweeney portrays the real-life boxer Christy Martin, a professional competitor in the 1990s and 2000s. She was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2020. Directed by David Michôd, the film focuses on both the challenges of professional boxing and the personal story of Martin.

The cast ensemble includes Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, Chad L. Coleman, and Tony Cavalero. The movie is scheduled for its world premiere on September 5, 2025, at the Toronto International Film Festival. It will then release theatrically on November 7, 2025.
