It’s Taylor’s world in Tallahassee.
Listeners will hear a new format change on WQTL-FM’s Vibe 106.1, known for playing hip hop and throwback songs. It’s now playing Taylor Swift songs around the clock.
The Swiftie shift went into effect at 10 a.m. Sept. 26, said Operations Manager Tres “Twiggins” Wiggins, who added the change was designed to build momentum around the Grammy Award singer’s new upcoming album, “Life As a Showgirl.”
Her upcoming nuptials as she wears a ring with bling designed by a Florida State University graduate doesn’t hurt either.
“We’re celebrating Taylor Swift. Obviously, she has a brand new album coming out next week, and we’re trying to do that at a level no one in Tallahassee is doing,” he told the Democrat. “She’s obviously a very significant artist in this time, and her catalog is so strong that it really just deserves its own spotlight.”
The station even updated its logo making its call letters “W Q Tay L”
Twiggins said to expect the “deep cuts that the genuine Swifties all know,” along with casual fans. He said the approach is meant to connect with fans in a fresh, fun way.
When asked if the Swiftie switch is a permanent move, Twiggins was tightlipped on details.
“That I cannot comment on,” he said. “All I can say is that in this business, things evolve … If there is a change, it reflects a chance to do something unique. And, that’s what we’re doing right now.”
Located at 2222 Old St Augustine Road in Tallahassee, the Tallahassee station is owned by the Adams Radio Group in Lakeville, Minnesota. Some of its other local stations include Tally 99.9 FM whose motto is “we play everything, 103.1 The Wolf, which plays “fresh country;” andHOT 104.9, which dubs itself as “Tallahassee’s Hit Music Station.”
