The property was built for $7 million — about $263 million in today’s dollars — and is now valued around half a billion. It’s been owned by the Preservation Society since 1948, when the Vanderbilt heirs turned it over for a symbolic $1 a year. Today, it’s a National Historic Landmark, a public museum, and a glittering reminder of just how much money can buy.

Even if the Breakers isn’t the final venue, Swift has her own Rhode Island compound just down the coast. She bought the Watch Hill estate in 2013 for $17.75 million and spent $1.7 million on renovations earlier this year, a move that set off engagement rumors months before anyone said the word “wedding.” Fans know the house as the site of her infamous Fourth of July parties, where Gigi Hadid, Blake Lively, and Selena Gomez once cannonballed into the Atlantic.
