More than 20,000 pages of emails involving Jeffrey Epstein have been released, including some major bombshells about the former prince, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
Emails from the sex trafficker and paedophile include conversations with his partner and fellow sex trafficker, Ghislaine Maxwell, as well as someone called ‘The Duke’, believed to be Andrew. Epstein and Andrew met in 1999, after being introduced by Maxwell.
The financier was convicted of procuring a minor for prostitution in 2008, but the pair remained friends. In 2011, Virginia Guiffre spoke publicly about her experiences with Epstein and Maxwell, accusing Andrew of raping her three times when she was 17 after being sex trafficked to him.
Because of his connection to Epstein and Guiffre’s allegations, Andrew stepped back from royal duties in 2019. He was stripped of his military affiliations, charity patronages and use of the “His Royal Highness” style in 2022. Last month, he was further stripped of his style, titles and honours as Prince and Duke of York, being asked to leave his home in Royal Lodge. Here are four bombshells from the new Epstein emails.
1. Andrew didn’t cut off contact with Epstein in 2010
The former Duke of York claimed in his 2019 BBC Newsnight interview that he cut off all contact with Epstein after seeing him in New York in 2010. He said the pair mutually agreed to part ways and “never had any contact with him from that day forward”.
The new emails show ‘The Duke’, thought to be Andrew, emailing Epstein in March 2011 about an inquiry from a news reporter.
He said: “Hey there! What’s all this? I don’t know anything about this! You must SAY so please. This has NOTHING to do with me. I can’t take any more of this[.]”
Epstein responded: “im not sure how to respond, the only person she didn’t have sex with was Elvis”
2. The photo of Andrew and Virginia Guiffre is real
Guiffre claimed the photo, released in 2011, was taken in Ghislaine Maxwell’s London home in March 2001 when she was just 17. Andrew said in his Newsnight interview that he did not recall it ever being taken and that it may be fake.
However, in the new emails, Epstein appears to be referring to Giuffre (the name of the girl mentioned was redacted), who had spoken to The Mail on Sunday, which had published the photo.
Epstein said in an email to a reporter on July 1, 2011: “Total horseshit, the daily mail paid her money, they admitted it, with the statement that it took money to coax out the truth.
“Yes she was on my plane, and yes she had her picture taken with Andrew, as many of my employees have.”
3. Epstein tried to discredit Guiffre
During a conversation with a journalist in July 2011, after the photo and Guiffre’s allegations came out, Epstein said: “The girl who accused Prince Andrew can also easily be proven to be a liar. I think Buckingham Palace would love it.
“You should task someone to investigate the girl Virginia Roberts, that has caused the Queen’s son all this agro (sic). I promise you she is a fraud. You and I will be able to go to ascot (sic) for the rest of our lives.”
4. Andrew asked Epstein to protect him
During a conversation in March 2011, ‘The Duke’ asked Epstein to deny all allegations against him following Guiffre’s claims.
A reply from “The Duke” said: “Please make sure that every statement or legal letter states clearly that I am NOT involved and that I knew and know NOTHING about any of these allegations. I can’t take any more of this my end.”
