Celebrity Traitors is finally emerging from the shadows ahead of its launch on BBC One in October, and it already looks thrilling.

All the stars taking part — including Jonathan Ross and Charlotte Church — have been sworn to secrecy about what happened inside Ardross Castle walls. Now, for the first time, there is a first look at the BBC reality series where major plot twists come to light and celebrities are seen exploring their darker sides.

It’s the first time the celebrity spin-off has come to the UK, but the rules are the same as the civilian series, where the traitors must remain hidden while murdering the faithful. The faithful must try to banish the hidden traitors before it is too late.

Weeks away from the show starting on BBC One, this is everything I have spotted in the Celebrity Traitors trailer that you may have missed.

Celia Imrie is determined to win Celebrity Traitors

Unlike the civilian series, the celebrities are competing to win £100,000 for charity. Some of the stars made it clear they are in the Scottish castle to win the money.

Actor Celia Imrie let her intentions be known. Seconds into the trailer, she said: “I’m here to win.”

The allegiances and friendships formed

Alliances are formed in the castle under the pressure of the game.

Friendships are important in the game because they can mean the difference between being banished and being murdered. Remember how Mollie Pearce was kept in The Traitors in series two right until the end because she was friends with traitor Harry Clark, who went on to win the game.

The Celebrity Traitors trailer gave us a first glimpse at a possible alliance. Joe Wilkinson and Nick Mohammed were seen sharing a hug after one of the challenges.

The coffins are back

Coffins have been used in the civilian series to entrap players during challenges. One spine-chilling moment in the Celebrity Traitors trailer revealed the coffins would be making a comeback. The lid of a coffin was closed shut in tense scenes.

The Traitors star Anna relived what it was like being put into a coffin for the civilian series. The swimming teacher revealed TV bosses had prepared her for going into the coffin in the morning.

She told Yahoo UK last year: “You never think you’re actually going to be alive going into a coffin… It was so crazy because you think to yourself, ‘Oh, it’s only a small space.’ But it’s a full-on coffin. I was in there for the longest time.

“I was trying to control my breathing — and just not freak out… The Faithfuls had the challenge of finding me, but I had the challenge of actually not losing my mind in there.

“It was tough because also when you’re in there, it’s quiet. It took them a while to actually get to me and your mind is racing. Really, your mind is racing. And it’s pitch black. And so it was really intense.”

No VIP treatment

The cast may be A-list for the first time in the Celebrity Traitors, but Winkleman makes it clear there will be no special benefits.

She said, “Players, welcome to the Highlands. Now I know out in the real world, you’re very important and successful. But here there is no special treatment.”

The rules in the Scottish castle remain the same. Traitors must remain undetected to murder the faithful.

No early, brutal twist

The first Celebrity Traitors trailer shared a glimpse of the very first roundtable where Winkleman chooses the traitors. All 19 celebrities were seated at the table, meaning that everyone made it into the Scottish castle.

In series one, two contestants were forced to leave the game before they had even set foot inside the castle. A shock twist saw them return in episode five. Then in the third series, three contestants had to get off the train heading for Scotland, but they made a comeback later in the game.

However, it wouldn’t be The Traitors without surprising twists. In one jaw-dropping moment in the trailer, Paloma Faith was unable to contain her shock with a gasp. Then historian David Olusoga quipped: “That’s quite a twist.” We have yet to find out what that twist is.
