Members Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy broke the news to fans on The Cult’s Instagram post Wednesday, Oct. 22.

“Mother Nature has a cycle of change and evolution that is inevitable. The moon’s phases change, tides rise and fall. Change is necessary for creation and rebirth. It is with this in mind that, following the remaining dates on our current North American The Cult/Death Cult 8525 Tour, we have decided to step away from touring for an undetermined amount of time,” the band wrote.

“We have toured extensively over the last few years and we shall now shift our focus to writing, recording new music, and exploring other projects that shall be revealed over time. It is a time for us to turn inward to recharge our spiritual batteries,” The Cult continued. “When we return to the stage, it shall be with an even stronger fire and energy that we will share with all of you.”

The Cult confirmed that they will play the five remaining shows on their current tour. The Cult/Death Cult 8525 Tour will travel through Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Francisco and Del Mar over the next week before concluding in Los Angeles on Oct. 30.

“Ours is a communal bond, and it will not be broken, simply paused. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the love and support. It keeps us alive,” The Cult wrote on Instagram.

Formed in England in 1983, the band was originally Death Cult but then rebranded to The Cult in 1984. The rock group has released 11 albums since its debut, with 2022’s “Under The Midnight Sun” being The Cult’s most recent project.

The Cult’s biggest songs in the U.S. are “Fire Woman” and “Edie (Ciao Baby),” which charted at No. 46 and No. 93 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1989, respectively. The group has also charted nine albums on the Billboard 200 with “Sonic Temple” being their highest performer, peaking at No. 10.
