Those numbers represent a leaps and bounds improvement on the original, even adjusted for inflation. When The Devil Wears Prada first sashayed into theaters in 2006, it grossed $27.5 million domestically, eventually earning $124.7 million, and finished its global run with $326.5 million. Adjusted for inflation, that domestic opening take would equate to roughly $48 million in 2026.
Made on an estimated $100 million budget, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has proven itself more than capable of getting back into the green, even accounting for its substantial marketing and promotional expenses.

In just three days, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has already shot to No. 7 on the global list of 2026’s highest grossing films so far, beating Scream 7, GOAT, Send Help, which had weeks-long head starts. The sequel is a mere $8 million away from unseating Wuthering Heights on the No. 6 spot, but is still a good $200 million shy of Michael, which will continue to add to its tally in only its second week in theaters.
The Devil Wears Prada 2‘s immediate placement on the global leaderboard is impressive enough, but its premiere numbers have broken a noteworthy record for one of its stars. The film’s smash domestic opening of $77 million now holds the place of the highest earning premiere in Meryl Streep‘s illustrious career. Each of her costars have been attached to other films that outperformed TDWP2 at home in their opening weekends, from Oppenheimer (Emily Blunt), to The Dark Knight Rises (Anne Hathaway), to most of the Hunger Games movies (Stanley Tucci). But Prada prevailed for Streep, above Mamma Mia, its sequel, Into the Woods, and more.

Antoine Fuqua’s controversial Michael Jackson biopic Michael proved that, like its subject, it doesn’t tire easily of the dance. In its second weekend in theaters, the film starring Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, grossed $54 million domestically, for a former total of $183.8 million, and $134.8 million globally, totaling $423.9 million.
The third spot on the domestic and global leaderboards was held by another returning champ this weekend: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie added $12 million in its fifth week domestically and $44.3 million globally. The animated adventure from Nintendo is now just $100 million shy of crossing the billion-dollar threshold at the global box office.
Elsewhere, Neon’s latest horror offering, the Adam Scott-starrer Hokum, premiered to $6.4 million domestically, while the Christian outfit Angel Studios’ Animal Farm adaptation opened to $3.4 million. Globally, the Chinese/Hong Kong co-production Cold War 1994 earned a $23 million debut, and India’s Patriot opened to $6.5 million.
Next week, it would take a miracle to upset Michael and The Devil Wears Prada 2‘s twin holds on the box office, but Mortal Kombat II is going to take them into the arena to try.
Simon McQuoid’s CGI-heavy action sequel stars Karl Urban as fan-favorite video game character Johnny Cage.
“His integration into the Mortal Kombat story and universe is a big part of what this movie explores, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon told Entertainment Weekly in March. “Karl, his depiction of Johnny Cage is different than our games in some ways. He’s adding his own flair to it, but I think it’ll feel fresh.”
