One influencer’s Kentucky Derby outfit caused a social media storm last year that was far more dramatic than anything that unfolded on the track.
The 151st running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville drew more than 100,000 fans in May 2025, where longshot Sovereignty shocked the horse racing world by defeating overwhelming favorite Journalism in the opening leg of the Triple Crown.
Off the track, it was influencer Gabi Moura whose appearance generated noise.
Gabi’s dress drew swift and sharp condemnation from critics who argued her look was wildly out of step with the Derby’s storied fashion tradition.
Churchill Downs sets a clear expectation for attendees on its official website, noting, “The Kentucky Derby is an event unlike any other, and that extends from The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports all the way to the unmatched style.”
“Derby week is a chance to show up and show out with men and ladies pulling out all the stops. For some, that might mean bold, bright, floral looks, and for others, it’s a chance to showcase a refined elegance.”
“There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to Derby dressing… but the same rule goes for everyone in attendance: dress to impress.”
At the time, Gabi defended herself in a TikTok video.
“I’m getting ready for Kentucky Derby day two, and I saw a couple of comments on my last video,” Moura said.
“I don’t know if you’re going to misunderstand what I’m saying in this video, but big-boob girls are going to understand what I’m saying.”
“Girls with big boobs, there’s no way to hide it, like honestly,” she added. And more importantly, why would anyone want you to hide them? Sorry for interrupting again.
Critics felt Gabi missed that mark entirely.
“Declassing the event,” one person wrote.
“Inappropriate,” declared another. A third was blunter still: “We don’t need more influencers influencing things at the Kentucky Derby.”
Yet for every critic, Gabi’s loyal followers pushed back.
“Man there’s no way someone could be so fine,” one fan wrote. “Beautiful,” offered another. “She is beautiful.”
