After being caught in a storm of delays, Jumanji 3 (or 4, depending on whether you count the original 1995 Jumanji as part of the new franchise) has finally entered production.
Taking to Instagram, Dwayne Johnson shared an update about the franchise along with a photo from the cast’s table read in Los Angeles, confirming the return of beloved Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan in their respective roles as Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon, Franklin “Mouse” Finbar, and Ruby Roundhouse.
The actor also confirmed in the post that the upcoming instalment will serve as the finale of the franchise, writing, “Feels emotionally appropriate for our beloved Jumanji franchise to end on this beautiful grace note of our final film.”
Interestingly, the Instagram carousel also featured the original Jumanji poster and a braided necklace with a dice that was used in the original film. Teasing a callback to the classic Robert Williams-led film, Johnson confirmed that the upcoming instalment will pay “homage, love and respect to the great Robin Williams,” bringing the franchise full circle.
Directed by Jake Kasdan and written by Jake Kasdan, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg, the final Jumanji is set for a Christmas release next year.
