However, her stepmother, Roslyn Markle, once shed light on why Meghan doesn’t communicate with her family, attributing “distance” as the primary reason for her stepdaughter’s estrangement from certain relatives. Prince Harry sparked outrage among Meghan’s kin back in 2017 when he suggested during a BBC Radio 4 interview that the royals were “the family she never had.”
These comments were made after Meghan spent Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham in Norfolk, England. In defense of his sister, Thomas Markle Jr, Meghan’s brother, asserted that she “had a really good family” and “got everything she ever wanted.” It comes shortly after the mom-of-two recently announced her new As Ever holiday product, which has drawn swift criticism on social media.
Nonetheless, Roslyn, who was married to Meghan’s father in the 1960s, shared her viewpoint on Meghan’s family dynamics during a 2017 interview with Radar Online.
Her explanation wasn’t what many expected, as Roslyn stated it wasn’t a family feud that was to blame. “It’s not tension. It’s distance,” she clarified, reports the Mirror.
“When Meghan graduated from high school, she went to Northwestern which is up in Illinois. And when she finished that, she worked in Argentina. Then she started Suits and she began her acting career. It was the scenario that everyone got busy, and the distance was always a factor.”
Rosyln Markle has come to Meghan’s defense, asserting that she didn’t “shut out” her family, but admitted that she “didn’t talk too much” with her estranged sister, Samantha Grant. However, Samantha, who previously stated that Meghan had a “large family” who was “always there for her”, refuted Rosyln’s claims on Twitter.
In a fiery Twitter exchange, Samantha labeled Roslyn as “no relation” to Meghan and called her “crazy” for commenting. She posted, “FYI I read online said that Roslyn Markle was Meghan’s stepmom LOL my dad divorced Roslyn in 74… she remarried… no relation to Meg ever and she knows nothing about our lives or Meghan! In a subsequent tweet, she added: “Roslyn only knows Meg from what she has studied about her in the media LOL.”
