What happens in The Running Man ending?
The ending of Edgar Wright’s The Running Man differs from the original book by Stephen King, as well as the tweaked ending of the 1987 adaptation featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Richards’ apparent death became a catalyst for a mass rebellion against The Running Man show. In the end, a mob showed up at the next season of The Running Man and broke past security to attack Killian.

Unlike the original book, where Richards died in the plane crash, the 2025 adaptation gives a happy ending to its protagonist. Although the general public still believes Richards to be dead, he turns out to have survived the crash.
The ending shows Richards reuniting with his family and joining the mob that took Killian down. In the final scene, we see Richards dramatically emerge from the crowd within the raid. He ominously counts down to five before saying “Action!” and shoots Killian.
