SEB hosts various events throughout the school year, from all night parties and haunted houses to daily movie nights and more. As spring approaches and the clocks move forward, SEB shifts its focus to one of campuses most anticipated and vibrant events of the season: an Up All Night Drag Show.
This year, the drag show returns at 8 p.m. on March 27 in the CUB Senior Ballroom, promising a night full of energy, self expression and community engagement.
In a small, rural region like the Palouse, it can sometimes be hard to find a space where everyone feels free to express themselves. SEB’s event offers exactly that, a place where creativity and self expression are celebrated.
The drag show includes dances, performances and more from drag performers in unique and creative outfits.
Each year the event has grown in popularity, drawing larger crowds than previous years. SEB’s Up All Night Programmer, Jenissa Hepton, said the event has taken off because it is a one-of-a-kind-event that brings the community together and gets people excited.
“It’s a really unique event compared to many of our other programs, and it brings a lot of excitement and community to campus. Students enjoy the performances, the atmosphere and the opportunity to experience something vibrant and entertaining right here at WSU,” Hepton said.
SEB uses the lessons and successes from previous years to make each drag show bigger and better. Through building a talented lineup to incorporating feedback from attendees, SEB ensures that the event continues to be a fan favorite.
The performers and students are what make the event a success year after year. Not only are students counting down to the vibrant night, SEB’s staff is too.
“I’m most excited to see the energy that the performers bring to the stage and how students respond to it,” Hepton said. “Drag performances are incredibly dynamic and creative, and the audience energy really makes the show come alive.”
The event will feature several drag queens as well as queens part of TabiKat Productions, a local drag queen production company since 1995. TabiKat assists SEB when searching for the perfect drag performers to add to the event line up. Many of the performers are local artists who have experience entertaining campus and the community, and they know how to bring life to a student-centered event.
“The goal is to create an inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone can come as they are and enjoy the show,” Hepton said.
Each year, students and the community arrive in creative outfits that help express their identity. While there is no dress code, attendees are encouraged to dress up and have fun with their outfit if they choose.
Hepton said that the event is meant to be energetic and interactive rather than a quiet performance, encouraging everyone to cheer, sing and get on their feet.
Tickets are free for students and $10 for general admission, and they are now available online.
Join students, faculty and the community at 8 p.m. on March 27 at SEB’s drag show, where you can enjoy a night of entertainment, confidence and self-expression. Updates and more information can be found on SEB’s Instagram.
