Truly, fans can’t figure out what’s going on between Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Right when fans are convinced that everything is fine with them after months of breakup rumors, something else peculiar happens. Douglas’ latest post referred to his wife as his “birthday sister,” and it has fans scratching their heads. However, after some digging: we know if fans should worry or not.
On Sept 25, on their dual birthdays, Douglas shared a darling photo of the two of them on Instagram. He shared the photo with the caption reading, “To my birthday sister—what a joy celebrating another year with you! Congratulations on your spectacular game at the Celebrity Ryder Cup. Happy Birthday to the love of my life @catherinezetajones ❤️ 🎂 🎉.”

Jones responded by saying, “Happy birthday darling❤️ I can’t think of anyone else to share a birthday with.♥️”
But the sister comment? It has fans worried. However, don’t freak out; it’s nothing to worry about.
Michael has called Catherine his “birthday sister” before. In fact, in 2024, he shared a photo of her saying, “To my birthday sister, I love you with all my heart! May your new year be the best! @catherinezetajones ❤️.” (You can see the post HERE!)
But fans were even more confused when Jones’ birthday post didn’t have a pet name. She posted photos with the caption reading, “Happy Birthday Michael! Sharing this special day with you is once in a lifetime!😘”
However, you better not freak out again because she’s referred to him as Michael in her birthday posts. In 2024, she wrote, “Happy Birthday to Michael and to me!! This was us on our birthday 25 years ago! I love you with all my heart ♥️, our friend @jeanpigozzi snapped us in New York!!” And she did so again in 2023, saying, “It’s Michael’s Birthday! It my Birthday! Happy birthday @michaelkirkdouglas, love you!”
For those who don’t know, the pair met back at the Deauville American Film Festival held in France in Aug 1998, after being introduced to one another by Danny DeVito. Zeta-Jones and Douglas married two years later in Nov 2000, and welcomed two children named Dylan, born in Aug 2000, and Carys, born in April 2003.
They did split up briefly in Aug 2013, with Douglas’ reps confirming the news by saying, “Michael and Catherine are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.”
They reconciled a few months later. And a divorce will probably never be in the cards for them, especially when you remember what Jones said via celebrity.land: “I find divorces repulsive. I will never get divorced, never.”
