NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Thousands of movies have been filmed in the Land of Enchantment since the invention of the video camera, but how many films actually take place in New Mexico?
KRQE News 13 compiled a list of films set in New Mexico that were released in the 21st century, from the 2000s to the 2020s. Exactly 60% of these films about New Mexico were also filmed, in some part, in the Land of Enchantment. These films are denoted below with an asterisk (*).

These 43 films, released in the 2000s, take place in the state of New Mexico. Just over 51% were filmed in the Land of Enchantment.

These 18 films, released in the 2020s, take place in the state of New Mexico. Just under 78% were filmed in the Land of Enchantment.
In total, 90 films set in New Mexico were released in the 21st century, and 54 of them were also filmed in the Land of Enchantment, or 60%. The 2000s were the most popular decade for films set in New Mexico, correlating with a resurgence of popularity of the Western genre in Hollywood. The 2020s had the highest percentage of films set in New Mexico that were also filmed (in some part) in the state, likely due to the additional tax credits offered to productions in the state.
