Spring is right around the corner, and St. Louis artists are here to provide you with new tunes for your spring cleaning playlists. On this month’s iteration of the new music roundup, STLPR general assignment reporter Chad Davis was invited by Elaine Cha and “St. Louis on the Air” producer and music show originator Miya Norfleet to discuss their favorite new releases. There was no shortage of funky disco vibes and high energy in this month’s selections with songs like “Disco Ball” by Paul Niehaus IV and “Dance with You” by the band Starwolf.
“[Starwolf] had an album called ‘Tropical Disco’ that came out, so they have a lot of music that’s disco-inspired,” Davis said. “[‘Dance with You’] continues the vibe and the sounds from that album. It really kind of focuses on the production and less of the lyrics. … It really does feel like very lush-sounding music.”
While this playlist will make you want to get up and dance, there are a few tracks that slow things down — including the jazz-and-hip-hop fusion of “Playlist” by duo Treevilla.
“It’s just so smooth, this song,” Norfleet said. “It’s very grown and sexy. I feel like I should be in a lounge with a really pretty dress on.”
Rounding out the selections this month was an introspective R&B track “18” from Malena Smith. “Once I start playing it,” Cha said, “I want to listen to it again and actually sing along with it.”
Here is a list of our favorite new releases:
Album – “ZADO not zadydoe”
Paul Niehaus IV – “Disco Ball”
Album – “Short Story Long”
Album – “BACKWARD”
Album – “27 in Maine”
