New Jersey’s own Anne Hathaway has been named People Magazine’s “World’s Most Beautiful” cover star for 2026.
Launched in 1990, “World’s Most Beautiful” is described by People as “a celebration of the stars who are redefining beauty, living life on their own terms and inspiring us all along the way.”
Michelle Pfeiffer served as the series’ inaugural cover star followed by Julia Roberts and Jodie Foster. Over the years, numerous other icons such as Jennifer Aniston, Beyoncé, and Sandra Bullock have joined the list.
In 2026, People is celebrating Hathaway as she enjoys a massive year with five highly-anticipated film releases.
“Between her iconically stylish film roles (Princess Diaries, The Dark Knight Rises and the original Devil Wears Prada), her many memorable beauty moments (who could forget her Les Mis pixie turned platinum for the Met Gala in 2013?) and her standout red carpet looks, Hathaway has contributed much to people’s Pinterest boards,” writes People Magazine. “But for her, beauty if something that’s a little harder to put your finger on.”
Although she was born in Brooklyn, Hathaway spent most of her childhood living in Millburn. She has been married to her husband, jewelry designer and film producer Adam Shulman, for 13 years. They have two sons, Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6.
Hathaway’s breakthrough role came in 2001 when she starred as Mia Thermopolis in Disney’s “The Princess Diaries.”
Since then, Hathaway has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after stars. This year alone, the actress has five film releases on the schedule, including the highly anticipated “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” in which she will reprise her iconic role of Andy Sachs.
The film, which hits theaters May 1, will be her second role of the year following “Mother Mary,” which was released April 17.
Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” a sci-fi film “The End of Oak Street,” and the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s “Verity,” all starring Hathaway, are also set to be released throughout the rest of the year.
“A filmmaker once told me this: Beauty can contain within its ugliness as long as it contains truth. So for me beauty always fall along those lines,” Hathaway told People.
In her cover story, Hathaway, 43, details her beauty secrets, product must-haves, go-to workout, downtime habits, and much more, reflecting on her career thus far and sharing her mindset as she looks toward the future.
“I’ve never been this age. So let’s just like, you know, figure it out,” she told People. “You still never know what’s coming around the corner.”
