Baker Mayfield explains relationship with John Mateer, Toby Keith
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield was back in Norman on July 19 for his youth football camp.
Norman singer-songwriter Krystal Keith is paying tribute to her father, the late country music icon Toby Keith, as the Pittsburgh Steelers host Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Nov. 16.
Krystal Keith is performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” ahead of the game, which kicks off at noon Sunday. She will return to the Steelers’ home field at halftime Sunday to perform two of her father’s songs: his emotional ode “Don’t Let the Old Man In” and and his fervent military tribute “American Soldier.”
Her performance will pay tribute to her father, a Steelers fan who sang the national anthem at the first regular season game at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium in 2001.
Elements throughout Sunday’s game will honor, empower and connect with American military members, veterans and their families in support of the NFL’s Salute to Service initiative. Throughout the game, the team will raise awareness about the U.S. military community by featuring on-field and in-stadium Salute to Service elements, including paying tribute to our active military and veterans.
Toby Keith — who died Feb. 5, 2024, at age 62 after a multiyear battle with stomach cancer — remains beloved for his devoted support of military veterans and service members as well as his many country music hits, including the patriotic anthems “Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue (The Angry American)” and “American Soldier.”
A singer-songwriter and mother of two, Krystal Keith has released two albums: her EP “Boulder” and her debut LP “Whiskey & Lace,” which includes “Daddy Dance With Me,” the surprise gift of song she wrote and recorded for her father that she first played for him at her wedding. It has gained 20 million streams worldwide and become a favorite selection for father-daughter wedding dances.
In 2024, she took the stage for a very special performance as part of the star-studded NBC concert special “Toby Keith: American Icon.”
