Top Royals prospects trade baseball for giving back

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Some top Royals prospects trade baseball for volunteering.

The nonprofit ‘Giving the Basics’ welcomed the players to help sort, fill, and pack essential hygiene products on September 19 to give families in need basic products to uplift both their health and dignity.

Organization leaders tell KCTV5 they only have a dozen employees, so they really rely on volunteer help.

“We only have 12 employees, and without the volunteers, we could not get out these 10 million products that we got out last year. We rely highly on our volunteers to make sure we get the products into the hands of the people,” said Giving the Basics Co-Director Chandra Goebel.

Giving the Basics has been helping provide personal care items to underserved students, families, and seniors in Kansas City for more than a decade.
