LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A concert held Saturday celebrated the Little Rock family behind Gladys McFadden and the Loving Sisters, a gospel group that has been inspiring the music world for over half a century.
Surviving members of the historic group were honored at Greater Second Baptist Church on Geyer Springs Road.

Organizers said the event was a chance to pay homage to true pioneers while they are still living.
“They thought of this to do in my lifetime, rather than wait until my burial service, so at least I can hear it, see it and enjoy it, so that’s what I’m grateful for,” founding member Gladys McFadden said.
Gladys McFadden and the Loving Sisters formed in the 1950s after McFadden left her father’s church choir to start the group. Early Sunday morning radio performances led to them being signed to Peacock Records.
Their arrangement and recording of “Amazing Grace” was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1978.

The group was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 2003.
