Rodney Mims Cooks Jr., the head of the Commission of Fine Arts, hinted that the panel might be considering replacing the Ionic columns in front of the White House with Corinthian columns.
During an interview with The Washington Post, Cook Jr., who was appointed as the panel’s head by President Donald Trump, said he hopes to use the more ornate columns at the White House, similar to those at the U.S. Capitol and the Supreme Court.
In February, the Commission of Fine Arts approved Trump’s $400 million design plans for the White House Ballroom. They voted unanimously not only to approve the concept as is, but also to approve the final design.
