Regardless of how much America’s Next Top Model you watched back in the day: If you’ve been online any time in the last decade, this image of Tyra Banks is something you can literally hear just by looking at it.

The moment it’s taken from, of course, is from Cycle 4 of the legendary reality TV show — specifically, when Tyra decided to send home two contestants, Rebecca Epley and Tiffany Richardson, before laying into the latter contestant with a rant that instantly entered pop culture history.

“I have never in my life yelled at a girl like this,” Tyra exclaimed after telling Tiffany that she was “extremely disappointed” in her. “When my mother yells like this, it’s because she loves me. I was rooting for you! We were all rooting for you!”

The scene is so iconic that the trailer for Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model — Netflix’s just-released docuseries focusing on the alleged inner workings of ANTM — literally leads with the moment in question. And even though Tyra had previously decided not to publicly address what was going on at the time (her reps didn’t respond to multiple requests for comment in 2017, for a BuzzFeed News profile of Tiffany), she astoundingly broke her silence for the doc.

“Tiffany, that girl, that girl was my heart,” Tyra said. “She didn’t make it the first year because she got into a fight in a bar. But we mentored her off camera and said, ‘We feel like this show is gonna be amazing for you, let’s get you the help you need.’ When I see this beautiful girl who made some mistakes in the season before and didn’t make it and then we worked with her to get her here, and then to see her kind of giving up, I just…”

ANTM judge Jay Manuel referred to the moment as the “most difficult moment on set I had ever experienced,” and claimed that “production staff literally just took Tyra off set” after shooting had commenced. “Some of the things that were said were not well-intentioned. I will probably never repeat the lines that were actually said in the room that day.”
Netflix
“It was very scary,” fellow judge J. Alexnader added. “It was like she went off, and Tyra never went off. Tyra must have really [seen] herself in that girl.”

“You know, I lost it,” Tyra went on to say, claiming that the specific moment of her outburst “was probably bigger than” Tiffany herself.

“It was family, friends, society, Black girls, all the challenges that we have. So many people saying that we’re not good enough. I think all that was in that moment.”
Netflix
“That’s some Black girl stuff that goes real deep inside of me, but I knew I went too far,” she concluded.
