Virginia hardcore punk outfit U.S. Bastards have released their take on the classic Judas Priest song “Heading Out to the Highway,” giving fans another preview of their upcoming album, Negligent Discharge, which arrives June 19.
Led by former GWAR guitarist Brent Purgason, the track finds the band putting a punk-rock spin on the 1981 favorite while paying tribute to one of their biggest influences.
“We are a punk rock band at our core and we wanted to rock one of our favorite songs, by none other than Judas Priest,” Purgason said. “Plus, if Rob Halford can listen to it and text me a thumbs up emoji I can die a happy man.”
The cover will appear on Negligent Discharge, the band’s first new album following a lengthy hiatus. The record features 13 tracks, including bonus cover songs by Judas Priest and Motörhead.
Known for their no-frills blend of hardcore punk and speed-fueled rock ‘n’ roll, U.S. Bastards recently reunited and are preparing to unleash their latest batch of loud, fast, and unapologetic anthems.
