UNC is pulling out all the stops for fans with a line-up of events ahead of Bill Belichick’s college football coaching debut for the Tar Heels.
“We’ve had some high energy, highly anticipated games before, but I don’t remember anything like this,” Rick Steinbacher, UNC Senior Associate Athletics Director, said.
Steinbacher said the university wanted to match the energy of the game with pre-game activities for fans.
With that, UNC’s first performance of the ‘Chapel Thrill Concert Series’ will kickoff with country music star and former Carolina football player, Chase Rice, Monday night.
Monday night’s Chapel Thrill Concert is the first of six concerts before UNC home games.
The series will be in Polk Place by Wilson Library.
“You know, Polk place, the Bell Tower, the amphitheater out in front of the Football Center…We don’t have huge surface parking lots, but we do have beautiful grassy areas,” Steinbacher said. “Let’s do something bigger and better so, having Chase rice kick it off, [we’re] really thankful that he was willing to kick it off for us.”
There will be a DJ at the concert space four hours before the game, but Chase Rice will perform starting at 6 p.m., followed by The Marching Tar Heels performing on stage around 7 p.m.
Before the concert kicks off, fans will get a chance to cheer on Bill Belichick and the team up close.
The university is bringing back the Old Well Walk. Belichick and the team will walk from the Old Well, through Polk Place, past the Bell Tower and to the stadium around 5:30 p.m.
“To have Coach Belichick and the team get off at the old well and walk through all of Chapel Thrill, you know, pretty much right before the chase rice concert kicks off, it’s gonna be fantastic,” Steinbacher said.
