A classical piano trio from Athens, Greece, will lead off this year’s New Music + Technology Festival at Virginia Tech.

The Galan Trio, whose members focus on premiering new compositions and collaborating with composers worldwide, will perform Monday at the university’s Creativity and Innovation District living-learning community. The presentation will include “Voces Magicae,” a new piece written by a Virginia Tech music composition professor, Charles Nichols. 

The festival moves to the Cube, in the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, for its duration. Chicago-based Beyond This Point and Virginia Tech’s own October Sky Ensemble are among the scheduled performers.

Galan Trio performs “Kinesis”: 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Creativity and Innovation District living-learning community, 185 Kent St. $15, $12 seniors, $10 students at Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech ticket office, online, 540-231-5300 or at the door.

Beyond This Point: 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Cube, Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech (formerly Moss Arts Center). Free, via sopa.vt.edu/events/performances/2025/09/nmtf-20251.html or at the door.

October Sky Ensemble performs David Biedenbender’s “Before the Red Sky Reaches Us,” with an additional fixed-media work, and Bryce Newcomer with clarinet performance: 8 p.m. Wednesday, the Cube. Free, via sopa.vt.edu/events/performances/2025/09/nmtf-20251.html or at the door.

Kyle Hutchins, saxophonist, performs Charles Nichols’ and Zach Duer’s composition “Masks and Mirrors”: 8 p.m. Thursday, the Cube. Free, via sopa.vt.edu/events/performances/2025/09/nmtf-20251.html or at the door.
