Today Show entertainment news: Stephen Colbert farewells The Late Show one last time; Minogue sisters reflect on career style highlights.

From Hometown Puzzles To Global Entertainment Empire

Following the success of Andy Muschietti’s It feature film duology, based on the novel by Stephen King, Warner Bros didn’t want the party to end. After all, with the two films grossing a combined $1.17 billion at the global box office, there was plenty of money still to be made. Plus, with Pennywise being a nigh-ancient evil with countless murders to his name, there was lots of room for more stories featuring the killer clown from outer space.

Now, we have the trailer for It: Welcome to Derry, the next chapter in the saga. The plan is for each season of the show to tell a different story about Pennywise terrorizing the residents of Derry, Maine. This first season will be set in 1962 and deal with issues like racial integration in schools and the military. The cast includes Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, James Remar, and Bill Skarsgård, reprising his role as the iconic horror villain.

Stephen King’s stories are set in a somewhat interconnected universe, with themes and characters crossing over like Easter Eggs long before the MCU turned this into common practice. TV and film adaptations of King’s stories, likewise, have dabbled in this, with the short-lived Hulu series, Castle Rock, basically throwing all of King’s work into a blender and remixing it to form a new concoction.

Likewise, the trailer for Welcome to Derry features a bus with writing from “Shawshank State Prison,” and Chris Chalk is set to play Dick Hallorann, a character from The Shining. Whether these are mere Easter Eggs or an earnest attempt to connect various Stephen King adaptations from across the generations remains to be seen. In any case, it’s another layer of storytelling for fans of King, be they fans of his countless novels or of their adaptations across various media.

It: Welcome to Derry is scheduled for launch on October 26 as an HBO Max exclusive.
