For more than two decades,
Salman Khan has been under scrutiny due to the 1998 Blackbuck poaching incident. The actor was convicted of illegally hunting a blackbuck, an endangered species safeguarded by the Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972. In 2018, a court in Jodhpur sentenced him to five years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu, and Neelam Kothari, who were reportedly present with
Salman during the incident, were acquitted. He was later granted bail by the Jodhpur Sessions Court. In March 2022, the Rajasthan High Court approved the transfer of two petitions from the Jodhpur District and Sessions Court to the High Court. Although the case has quieted over the years, the Bishnoi community, dedicated to protecting the blackbuck, continues to seek justice for the shooting.

Since 2023,
Lawrence Bishnoi, the self-styled leader of the infamous
Bishnoi gang, has set his sights on Salman. Originally named Balkaran Brar, he has been incarcerated since 2014 and faces numerous criminal charges, including extortion and murder. Threats to Salman Khan
Salman’s security measures were enhanced after 2018, when an associate of Bishnoi, Sampath Nehra, issued the first threat. Outside a Jodhpur court, Lawrence threatened to ‘kill’ Salman while speaking to reporters. Following Sidhu Moose Wala’s assassination in 2022, a letter was discovered near the actor’s home in Bandra, stating that Salman and his father would be treated ‘like Moose Wala’. Consequently, the Mumbai police increased his security.

In the early hours of April 14, 2024, several gunshots were fired outside his residence in Mumbai. Salman and his family were unharmed. The two assailants were reportedly linked to Lawrence’s brother, Anmol Bishnoi. After the murder of Salman’s close friend and politician Baba Siddique, the Bishnoi gang allegedly demanded Rs 5 crore from Salman or insisted that he apologize at the community temple.
As
Salman’s security remains heightened, some members of the Bishnoi gang have been targeting the superstar’s colleagues and family. In 2025, popular Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh received threats after meeting Khan at the Bigg Boss 19 finale. In 2023, when Gippy Grewal’s home in Canada was attacked, the Punjabi actor distanced himself from the Dabangg star.
Attacks on celebs close to Salman Khan
Kapil Sharma, who hosted The Kapil Sharma Show, produced by Salman, faced threats from the
Bishnoi gang, which included multiple shootings at his newly opened cafe, The Kap’s Cafe in Canada. Fortunately, both he and the guests were unharmed.
As the new year began, the
Bishnoi gang resurfaced and issued a threat to
Rohit Shetty by firing several rounds outside his home in Juhu. Salman and Rohit had confirmed the former’s role as Inspector Chulbul Pandey in his copverse. A teaser was released for Singham Again. Ranveer Singh, a well-known character in the cop thriller universe, was reportedly under investigation. Now, the animosity extends beyond Salman to encompass the entire Hindi film industry.
