Hulu won’t exist as a standalone app for very much longer.
The streaming platform is merging with Disney+. Beginning in 2026, a single unified Disney+ and Hulu app will be the place to go for both Hulu and Disney+ series. So, what does that mean for Hulu original series, like “Only Murders in the Building,” “Tell Me Lies,” and “Paradise?”
“Only Murders in the Building” and other Hulu originals will still be available on Disney+ and Hulu once the standalone Hulu app is phased out. Season 5 of “Only Murders in the Building” is currently airing on Hulu. The mystery comedy-drama has yet to be renewed for season 6.
According to Variety, customers will still be able to purchase a standalone Hulu subscription or a standalone Disney+ subscription after the Hulu app shuts down.
Disney CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston said in August that the integrated app will make for an “improved consumer” experience.
“By creating a truly differentiated streaming offering, we will be providing subscribers tremendous choice, convenience, quality, and enhanced personalization,” the Disney execs said, per Variety. “This will enhance our ability to continue to grow profitability and margins in our entertainment streaming business through expected higher engagement, lower churn, and advertising revenue potential, as well as operational efficiencies that over time may result in savings that we can reinvest back into the business.”
Disney became Hulu’s majority stakeholder back in 2019. The entertainment conglomerate took full ownership of Hulu in July after buying Comcast’s remaining stake.

Some Hulu subscribers originally worried that Disney+ wouldn’t allow adult content on the streaming platform, but the Disney+ and Hulu bundle already includes some mature material.
“Disney buying hulu cracks me up cuz why am i watching sons of anarchy on disney+,” one X user joked this month.
An exact date for the shutdown of the standalone Hulu app has not yet been announced. Currently, the Disney+ and Hulu bundle costs $10.99 a month. The premium version, which is ad-free and allows viewers to download content to watch offline, is $19.99 a month.
