Elliott, 81, and Thornton, 70, are just 11 years apart. During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Thornton, who plays Tommy Norris in “Landman,” addressed their small age gap.

“You can look through movie history, and fathers or mothers have been close in age [to their children]. It’s just a thing you do because you’re actors portraying someone,” he said. “If you put yourself in the right headspace, I would find a way to play Sam’s older brother. They would say, ‘But wait a minute, you guys are 11 years apart.’ … But yeah, we never think about that. … It’s all in the way we portray the characters and [series creator] Taylor [Sheridan’s] vision.”

Elliott’s T.L. Norris was introduced to “Landman” viewers during the season 2 premiere, which aired on Sunday, Nov. 16. He and Thornton didn’t share any scenes during the episode. T.L., who is currently living in an assisted living facility, got the news that his wife, Dorothy, had passed away.

When an employee at the facility told T.L. that he’ll see his late wife again some day, T.L. replied, “If I do, that means I’m in hell, too.”

Elliott signed a two-year “Landman” contract, which means he should be playing T.L. in season 3 as well. Paramount+ has not officially confirmed season 3, but Elliott hinted that it’s coming during a recent interview with Extra TV.

“I’m excited to see what unfolds in season 3. I mean, we’re talking about season 2, but that’s backstory for us at this point. We’re all kind of looking toward April and May when we start shooting season 3,” he said.

Thornton, for his part, signed on for four or five years of “Landman.” He told THR that he wants to do the show “as long as I’m able” or “until the story runs out.”

“Landman” centers on Thornton’s character, Tommy, a landman and fixer for M-Tex Oil. He becomes president of the company at the end of season 1.

New episodes of “Landman” premiere on Paramount+ on Sundays at 3 a.m. ET.
