Detroit has long been a hotspot for celebrity sightings, from Motown legends and hip-hop artists to Pistons players and Hollywood actors passing through the city. As new boutiques, luxury retailers, and trendy shops continue to pop up all over metro Detroit, there are more places than ever to shop for both locals and the occasional celebrity. Here are a few local spots that have welcomed some famous visitors.
1. Carhartt, Detroit
Founded in Detroit in 1889, Carhartt has served as a staple for workwear both locally and globally. Its flagship store on Cass Avenue has seen a wide variety of celebrities. Detroit rapper BabyTron (who fittingly has a song called “Carhartt”) comes in frequently, mostly buying kids’ items, an employee who preferred to remain anonymous tells Hour Detroit. Rapper and music executive Rick Ross visited before a show to buy a high visibility jacket to wear on stage. Country music icon Garth Brooks came in and bought “$13,000 worth of stuff for his team and friends and family” the employee says. 2. Burn Rubber, Royal Oak
Sneaker and street wear abound at Burn Rubber in Royal Oak, where manager John Jay is no stranger to the occasional celebrity drop-in. Detroit Pistons’ Cade Cunningham visited the store to buy a pair of Jordan 1s, and Jay says he was a “super nice guy.” Detroit-raised rapper Big Sean came in to buy a couple of Carhartt WIP jackets. Actor and former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch also visited the store. “He probably spent the most. He bought jackets, he bought all types of stuff. He came by himself as well,” Jay says. 512 N. 3. Old Soul Vintage, Detroit
A wide variety of fashion finds home at Old Soul Vintage on Cass Avenue in Detroit. Owner Mary Capps’s curated collection draws many a celebrity. Rapper, producer, and actor, André 3000 came in to buy a beanie. Singer Kesha came in for some band tees. Singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo came in for, “lots of Y2K, 60s, some dresses, low-rise pants,” says Capps. 3627 B Cass Ave, Detroit; shopoldsoulvintage.com

4. dolce MODA, Birmingham
Opened in 2003 and known for specialty and designer women’s and menswear, dolce MODA in Birmingham styles everyone from the casual shopper to the intermittent celebrity. Big-name shoppers have included reality TV star Teresa Guidice, who visited the store with her daughter to buy a few dresses. “She was very friendly,” says owner Jenny Ouliguian. Grammy Award-winning R&B singer Anthony Hamilton came in for styling for a Christmas music video and concert. Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson Jr. has shopped at the store as well, buying a few sportscoats. “He was very down to earth,” says Ouliguian. ”He loved the items we carried and was surprised we had stuff to fit him.” 323 E Maple Rd., Birmingham; dolcemoda.com

5. Retro Fit, Birmingham and Troy
This vintage store specializing in streetwear with a niche t-shirt collection has welcomed a few celebrities. Detroit rapper Icewear Vezzo has shopped at the store multiple times. “One memorable purchase was a vintage LA Lakers jacket he bought as a gift for rapper Warren G when they were filming a music video,” says owner James Milewski. Another Detroit rapper, Baby Money, has also visited the shop, buying a variety of vintage ‘90s T-shirts and collectible toys. Philadelphia 76er Andre Drummond has also come through Retro Fit. “He was particularly interested in Y2K-era fashion and purchased several pairs of baggy vintage denim jeans,” says Milewski. 6. Eldorado General Store, Detroit
Opened in 2013, Eldorado General Store features a funky mix of vintage clothing, handmade jewelry, and gifts. The store has been frequented by all sorts of celebrities who have come to enjoy the hip selections. Kesha once visited the store two days in a row, buying several vintage pieces. “She brought her crew and band,” says owner Erin Gavle. “We sent her on the road with some crystals and palo Santo for her tour.” Singer Shaboozey has also dropped by the shop. Gavle says she was “honored to be listed in his Google Maps ‘must stop’ places in Detroit, especially for turquoise and cowboy boots and lots of fun western finds.” Country singer-songwriter Nikki Lane has also visited the shop while on tour in Detroit.
