It seems the White House’s social media team just reads the headlines.

On Sunday, @Rapid Response 47 — an official X account for President Donald Trump’s administation — retweeted a Daily Mail article that boasted the headline “Trump critic Bruce Springsteen and stony faced celebs watch US Open final after POTUS triumphantly greets crowd.”

“Oh no! How will we ever recover from the pathetic (but hilarious) crying of Loser Bruce Springsteen and Newly Unemployed Stephen Colbert? 😱,” the account quote-tweeted in response.

The problem is, if one were to — oh, we don’t know, click on the article and read it — it becomes immediately clear that the Daily Mail headline is a bit of a stretch.

The piece mainly lists all the celebrities and public figures who attended Sunday’s U.S. Open men’s final, in which Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz defeated Italy’s Jannik Sinner.

It does mention that “Trump’s presence at the final was divisive among fans, many of whom were delayed entering due to the increased security.” But the article goes on to note that Springsteen and Colbert were “all smiles at center court” — not exactly the “stony faced celebs” promised in the headline.

It would be understandable if tennis fans were annoyed by the chaos that Trump brought to the event, however. One anonymous source told the celebrity.land’s Page Six that the heightened security affected everyone in attendance, including non-famous folks.

“It is an absolute s–-tshow,” the source told Page Six. “Cars can’t get into parking lots and people are walking miles. Even celebs are having to wait like normies.”

The source added that celebrities like Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Douglas and Ben Stiller were spotted “waiting in line, like everyone else,” and Debra Messing “sat in a car for an hour and they wouldn’t let her out.”

It’s not surprising that Trump’s social media team would pounce on the opportunity to mock Springsteen, considering he’s been openly critical of the president. Colbert, whose decades-long “Late Show” franchise was canceled shortly after CBS’s parent company, Paramount, settled a lawsuit with Trump, has also been a frequent Trump target.
