It’s that time of year again – The Great British Bake Off tent is open for business, and the iconic series is back on Channel 4 for 2025.
The 12 amateur bakers have become 9, with Hassan being the first contestant to leave the show, followed by Leighton and then Pui Man last week.
In a bid to become Star Baker and keep their place on the show – and of course avoid the infamous soggy bottom – week four saw the remaining hopefuls challenged to produce their best work for Back to School Week.
The bakers were tasked with making a flapjack signature before being challenged to create school cake technical, where absolutely everything had to be handmade.
With no modern equipment allowed, and definitely no lumpy custard to make the final taste session, some of the bakers struggled.
For the showstopper, the hopefuls were tasked with creating a spectacular summer fete display, complete with one large bake and several smaller ones. They were issued with the ominous warning by Paul Hollywood, that something could go wrong in ‘every single area’ of this challenge – definitely not confidence-inspiring words.

Jessika became the fourth person to leave the Bake Off tent. Having previously impressed the judges with her performance and creativity, Prue said, “She is very creative and she takes risks every single week. And I think she took the risk too far this week.”
A disappointed Jessika said, “This was going to be my last year to apply and I feel chuffed that I made it to the tent. I have met some incredibly talented, inspiring bakers, so it’s not all bad.”
Jessika recalled her best moment in the show as being her week two showstopper, when she made a biscuit selfie. Noting that while disappointed, she was also unsurprised to be asked to leave this week, she conceded last night had definitely been her worst week.
“Everything went wrong – my oven, my microwave, my cake, my biscuits, my meringue,” she said, adding, “After that bake, I knew it was coming – it was a bit of a disaster from start to finish, and the judges’ reactions made it pretty clear.”

Jasmine was Star baker for week four, for the second week in a row. During the Back to School week, she impressed judges in all three of the challenges and came top of the class in the blind judging for the technical.
Remarking on her consistency throughout all tasks so far, Paul Hollywood branded the student doctor “one-to-watch” this season. He noted her thus far very strong position moving forward in the competition.
What is next week’s Bake Off theme?
Next week is Chocolate Week. The eight remaining bakers will be asked to make mousse during the signature, tarts for the technical, and “go gooey with incredible showstoppers.”
The theme changes every week, and some appear consistently every year, while occasionally a surprise theme will be thrown in to mix things up a little.
Previous unusual themes have included Botanicals Week, Vegan Week, and Tudor Week. Halloween Week and Dessert Week are usually seen consistently, along with old favourites such as Cake, Biscuit, and Bread Week.
We can’t wait to find out what chocolate week will bring for our remaining hopefuls.
