The Culver Theater in Los Angeles is holding a special screening for the movie Bugonia on October 22. However, to enter the movie, there is a special requirement. Like Emma Stone’s character in the film, to see the film, audiences must either shave their head or have it shaved before the movie starts. There will even be a barber on site two hours before the beginning of the film to aid in the process of everyone shaving their heads.
While this might seem like a steep price to pay to see the movie early, many fans have already committed to the bit. Yet, there isn’t anything in the description about wearing a bald cap. That said, the fact that a barber is on site insinuates that wouldn’t be accepted for the screening. Nevertheless, several eccentric movie fans are more than happy with sacrificing their hair if it means they can watch Emma Stone’s latest film slightly early.
Above all else, this seems to be an elaborate marketing strategy for the film. The theater has already announced that part of the screening will be filmed and its likely to show the dedicated fans who were willing to shave their head to see the movie. Nevertheless, there are still a lot of risks with the promotional stunt. For example, someone could shave their head before the movie begins and ending up hating the film. Sadly, it doesn’t appear like there will be an option for fans to only shave their heads if they enjoy the movie.
Bugonia is another on the list of Emma Stone’s recent avant-garde movies. Poor Things, Kinds of Kindness, and now Bugonia have all had strange undertones. Moreover, many moments in each film are downright strange. That said, many film experts claim that her performances in these films will be remembered for decades to follow. Nevertheless, it appears she has come along way from her soley comedic upbringing.
In the end, Culver Theater’s request to have audiences shave their heads is strange, but not unexpected. Many fans have already expressed their willingness to do so. While this screening is likely nothing more than an elaborate marketing ploy, it could end up working wonders for the film itself.
