Why did Royals change Dollar Dog Nights at Kauffman Stadium?

The Kansas City Royals released their 2026 promotional calendar, and fans immediately noticed one big change to the schedule.

The beloved Dollar Dog Night, where guests can enjoy $1 hot dogs at concession stands all around Kauffman Stadium, was hosted every Tuesday home game in 2025. New in 2026, the event is only available for the first Tuesday home game of each month during the regular season.

The promotion is only available for six home games this year: April 21, May 5, June 9, July 21, Aug. 4 and Sept. 1. It’s half of the Dollar Dog Nights offered in 2025, when there were two times fans could indulge on the Ball Park Brand hot dogs each month.

A representative with the Royals said the reason for the change is due to staffing and internal logistics challenges.

Some fans were furious and expressed their displeasure on social media over the weekend.

“What is this BS that dollar dog night is only one Tuesday a month now? Booooooo,” a fan wrote on X.

Another said: “When you’re taking away a dollar hot dog night you’ve completely missed the boat on how to turn a profit. It’s not going to be by taking away a $1 dog night on Tuesday home games. “Lame move by a lame ownership group.”

And a fan wryly observed: “I know their greed knows no bounds but the poor billionaires need more. We should give them 500 million of public tax money to save something that very few people can afford to go to. Seems like a smart thing to do.”

Here are some of the other responses, including one from Carrington Harrison of 96.5 The Fan, the radio home of the Royals.

Other ways to save at Kauffman Stadium

While Dollar Dog Nights are happening less, it isn’t the only budget-friendly option for game days at Kauffman Stadium. A representative with the Royals said they are expanding the Value Menu locations inside the stadium concourse, currently found at sections 120, 135, 201, 213, 242, 405 417 and 422.

The value menu offers $3 popcorn, pretzels and sodas, $4 hot dogs and $5 beer cans.

Sunday home games offer a special four-pack deal where you can get four tickets, hot dogs, sodas and a parking pass for $80. The Fountain Pass is also an option for $300, and gets you standing room access to every home game, which averages to less than $4 per game.

Jackson County days will slash ticket prices in half for county residents for 32 home games, and discounts are available for military, teachers, students, health care workers and seniors residents. Sometimes, fans get emails from the Royals promoting 50% off tickets for different games throughout the season.
