Seven has reportedly poached a popular reality-based show from a rival network. The show, which was rested by Ten, will now enter Seven’s entertainment catalogue in 2027.
Due to the shift, the show may anticipate changes in its hosts, Julia Morris and Robert Irwin.
How Seven acquired I’m A Celebrity after Network 10 rested the series
The show’s new address was announced at the back of Ten’s statement to rest the “I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!” show by Ten. A Ten spokesperson said, “We have made the decision to rest I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! in 2027 as we focus on offering our audience a range of content on all platforms.” The statement also indicates that the show is “rested,” not axed, after running for 12 seasons.
Just two months into the rest period, Seven took the opportunity to claim the show for themselves. According to news.com.au, Southern Cross Media Group’s Managing Director, Television and Streaming, Angus Ross, said, “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is one of the world’s most recognisable entertainment formats and we’re incredibly excited to welcome it to Seven in 2027,” adding, “This is a proven franchise with a passionate fan base and we look forward to bringing our own fresh energy and ambition to its next chapter.”
According to if.com.au, the move also reunites the franchise with ITV Studios Australia, which continues to produce the series despite its switch from Network 10 to Seven. The show is expected to premiere on both Seven and 7plus in 2027.
It is unclear if the show’s hosts will be changed. Robert Irwin and Julia Morris have been hosting the show for Ten. The buck may now pass to creative talent within Seven. A possible replacement would be Dr. Chris Brown, who co-hosted the show with Morris until 2023, before he joined Seven for newer opportunities.
Morris and Irwin are contenders for the Gold Logie. However, if they win, they will be receiving an award which has already been rested and will now feature on a rival network, where they may not be involved.
Over the years, the reality competition has featured a mix of Australian and international celebrities tackling challenges in the African jungle, while also helping revive or elevate the careers of several contestants, including Casey Donovan, Abbie Chatfield, Richard Reid and Fiona O’Loughlin after their successful appearances.
