THE RUNDOWN

  • Jimin has his first solo MTV VMA nomination this evening for Best K-Pop Song.

  • The BTS member did not attend the Elmont, New York ceremony.

  • Jimin completed his military service in June, and now all seven members of BTS have reunited and are recording their next album.

Jimin has his first solo MTV VMA nomination tonight, but the busy K-pop idol and his bandmates chose to skip the Elmont, New York ceremony.

Jimin’s song “Who” is in the very competitive Best K-Pop Song category, up against Aespa, Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, Stray Kids, and Rosé. The award was announced during the preshow and went to Lisa, who also skipped the ceremony and prerecorded her acceptance speech.

While Jimin didn’t go this year, the star has big things ahead. All seven members of BTS just reunited this summer, as they have all completed their mandatory military service in South Korea. In August, J-Hope shared photos of the group reunited in Los Angeles. He also included recording studio footage, in a nod to the fact they are actively working on new music:

In July, Jin, Jimin, J-Hope, Jungkook, Suga, V, and RM shared their plans in a statement to fans. “We’ll be releasing a new BTS album in the spring of next year,” they said, adding, “We’re also planning a world tour alongside the new album. We’ll be visiting fans all around the world, so we hope you’re as excited as we are.”

Jimin released his solo album Muse in July 2024, which included his nominated track “Who.” It came out while he was completing his military service.

He was discharged this June with Jungkook and spoke to reporters then.

“Thank you to the fans and reporters who came to see us,” Jimin said, via Billboard. “It’s been a long time, from the pandemic to military service. Now that we’re back, we’ll work hard to show you what we’ve prepared.”

He added, “Now that I’m discharged, I think it’s time we continue drawing the picture we had in mind. We’ll prepare well and share it with you soon.” He also reflected on his time serving, saying, “Military life wasn’t easy, but I’m grateful for the memories. If you see a soldier on the street, a warm gesture can mean a lot.”
