Dionne Warwick has revealed why she had to pull out of her performance at this year’s New York State Fair.
Warwick, 84, announced Tuesday that she won’t be able to perform at the UK’s Soul Town Festival on Saturday because she had to undergo emergency surgery on her leg.
The music legend was also scheduled to perform at the NYS Fair on Monday, but canceled her Chevy Court concert the day before.
“Please know how disappointed I am not to be with you at the Soul Town Festival,” Warwick wrote in a Facebook post. “The last thing I expected was to have the surgery the day I was to fly to London. Pain was unbearable and my doctor rushed me into surgery thank goodness, as it could’ve resulted in something far worse. Hopefully we can do this festival again in the future, and I’ll be walking like a normal person.”
“Please keep me in prayer and I’ll see you soon,” she added.
According to the Soul Town Festival, Warwick underwent surgery on Monday after visiting her doctor for pain in her leg. Walking is expected to be difficult following the surgery and she is unable to fly until her doctors give her the all clear. Additional details were not provided.
Warwick was scheduled to appear at the NYS Fair Monday at noon, but officials announced Sunday night that she was unable to perform. Locash, a country duo best known for songs like “I Love This Life” and “I Know Somebody,” replaced Warwick. The concert was free with admission to the fair.
Gabrielle, a British R&B singer, will replace Warwick at the Soul Town Festival.
Warwick is a Grammy-winning singer known for decades of hits including “I Say a Little Prayer,” “Walk on By,” “Don’t Make Me Over,” “I’ll Never Love This Way Again,” and “That’s What Friends are For.”
She has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, plus received a Grammys Lifetime Achievement Award.
