Now, that bright spot will not be in the lineup against the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon, according to Anne Rogers of MLB.com.
“Bobby Witt Jr. is out of the lineup today with a tight back. Manager Matt Quatraro said it progressed during yesterday’s game and they wanted to be cautious with him today,” Rogers posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Witt is hitting .280 this year, with 13 home runs and 39 RBIs. Still, he has struggled as of late. So far in July, he is hitting just .200 with a .241 on base percetnage. He also has just three extra-base hits, with a home run and three RBIs. Further, he has struck out 12 times this month, including three times in the series with the Padres so far.

The Royals are having a solid series against the Padres. After heading into the all-star break losers of five straight, they have won their first two games of the series with the Padres. The team took a 7-6 win on Friday and then a 6-1 win on Saturday. They will look for the sweep of the Padres on Sunday afternoon.
The Royals are 40-59 on the year, placing them 12 games behind the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central. They are also ten games behind the Boston Red Sox for the final wild card spot in the American League.
